I heard a story that really upset me this week. My friend went to the Dept of Motor Vehicles. While there, he overheard a conversation between a 75 year old man and the DMV employee. The man was getting his license renewed, and it was easy to overhear the conversation because he was hard of hearing, and consequently the DMV employee had to raise her voice.
Anyway, during the license renewal process that everyone in the DMV heard that day, it came out that the man was not registered to vote, But not only was he not registered to vote right now, apparently he’s never voted ever in his whole life! My friend was appalled! So were all the other people in the DMV that were overhearing this. I couldn’t believe it!
No matter which party you’re aligned with, which candidate you believe, no matter what: how can you not vote ever?
When I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to vote! It was one of those rites of passage, part of being an adult, like getting your drivers license, or getting your first checking account, your first mortgage payment. It’s part of growing up in America!
We are so fortunate to live in a country where our voices can be heard. And to not take advantage of your right to vote just blows my mind. If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain about anything!
Ok, I’m off my soapbox now.
