Autumn and the Holidays Are Upon Us

Fall is finally here! The weather is cooling off and it’s time to open the windows and let the fresh air in!
It’s also time to put the summer stuff away and start to get ready for the holidays. We at StoreRight Self Storage are here to help.

Being from the Boston area, one of the perks of living here in Brooksville, Florida is the ability to call those I left behind every time is snows there and remind them how warm and sunny it is here and invite them down. Are you getting ready for friends and family from up North? Has your spare bedroom turned into a store room? Now is the time to get this organized and find a home for all those things that you need but not every day.

Take a good look at what’s been hanging around and honestly decide if it is something you will need in the future or not. Let’s face it you might have looked really sharp in your MC Hammer parachute pants in the ’80’s but it isn’t likely a look you’ll be going for in 2016. I know that the miniskirts and bell bottom jeans I loved in the ’60’s are nothing that I could ever wear (or fit into) now that I’m in my 60’s. So be honest with yourself while you sort out your things. It may be something that is good and usable but not by you. In that case you might consider selling or donating the items.

Once you know what you want to store, it’s time to select your unit. Some people can visualize what a 10′ X 10′ space will look like but many of us (myself included) need a little help. On the www.storeright.com home page there is a tab that will bring you to a size estimator.  This is a wonderful tool for the spacially challenged like me. Going through the check list may help you remember things to store that you forgot. Plan ahead, too. It won’t be long before you are looking for a place to park that 7′ pre-lit Christmas tree with a dozen boxes of ornaments, lights, wreaths etc. for another 10 months.

Having a clean, uncluttered space will help you and your guests have a relaxed , happy holiday season.

Holidays are coming! Are your gifts covered?

The holidays are coming! Have you done any shopping yet? Are you planning to store any surprises from Santa in your unit at StoreRight Self Storage in Lecanto? If so, you might want to think about our renter’s insurance program through the Bader Company. It’s easy to sign up for, and if you only want the policy for a couple months, that’s ok! You can just sign up for the policy through the end of the year if you like, then if you want to cancel, you certainly can do so.

Maybe you didn’t feel the need to insure your belongings before, but you may have recently purchased something that you really should insure. Keep in mind, if you’re not insured; if anything happens, your belongings are NOT covered.

We offer insurance through the Bader Company. StoreRight itself is not an insurance company or agent, but we offer policies through Bader. You can insure your items for as little as $9 per month. The insurance premiums depend on the level of coverage you select.

Give us a call at 352-527-9777, or stop by the office to pick up a brochure, or to discuss an insurance policy for your stored belongings. The paperwork is really easy, it’s only one form.  Here at StoreRight Self Storage, we want to do all we can to make sure your belongings are at the Right Place, at the Right Price!   Happy Shopping!

History of Halloween Traditions

Halloween

Halloween traditions can be traced back to the pre-Christian ancient Celtic festival of the dead. This is also known as the festival of Samhain, when nature appears to be dying down.

The Celtics were ancient Indo-European people and they reached their peak of Celtic influence and territorial expansion during the 4th century BC and it extended across the length of Europe from Britain to Asia.

The Celtics used a solar/lunar ritual calendar. They divided the calendar year into four major sections. These sections were called quarter days. They divided the quarter days in half, creating four cross-quarter days. Together, these made an eight-part year that reflected the natural procession of the seasons.

Halloween, October 31st is the first month of the Celtic year and is named Samonios, ‘Seed Fall’: in other words, from death and darkness springs life and light.

The Celtic calendar is presumably dates back from the 1st century BCE. It is made up of bronze fragments and was once a single huge plate. It is inscribed with Latin characters, but written in Gaulish, which is an ancient Celtic language that was spoken in parts of Europe as late as the Roman period.

During the 3rd and 4th century BC, the Celtic history began to decline and disintegrate with Julius Caesar’s conquest of Gaul. When this happened, the Celtic independence came to an end on the European continent. In Britain and Ireland this decline moved more slowly, but traditional culture was gradually eroded through the pressures of political subjugation. Despite the erosion of the Celtic culture, many of the holidays we celebrate today can be traced back to the Celtic calendar and traditions.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – #SeeBeyondThePink

This is an excerpt of a blog post written by a very close and dear friend of our manager, Christie.  She is battling Triple Negative, Stage IV, Inflammatory Breast Cancer – it is a very aggressive form of breast cancer.  (“Because of its high rate of metastasis, inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) has a poor prognosis compared with non-inflammatory types of breast cancer (non-IBC).” – IBC Research Foundation”)

“As someone with breast cancer, I prefer you give your time and/or money to a nonprofit that focuses on research or one that gives their products or services freely to the breast cancer patient.  (Several big-name organizations sell donated products to cancer patients.)  Two of my favorite organizations that fit into those categories are The IBC Network Foundation and Awesome Breast Forms.  The IBC Network Foundation is a volunteer organization (Meaning your donation does not go to someone’s salary.) that raises money for research.  To learn more about the IBC Network Foundation and get involved check out http://www.TheIBCNetwork.org.  Awesome Breast Forms is exactly what it says it is.  They are a nonprofit made up of volunteer knitters and crocheters all across the country who make breast forms for women who have gone through mastectomies and lumpectomies.  Contact them to become one of their awesome creators or to receive a breast form,http://www.AwesomeBreastForms.org
Let’s create a different October this year.  Let’s push for a cure.  Let’s get real with breast cancer and how it affects lives.  Let’s dive into this war.  Let’s attack cancer like never before.  Let’s fight for change.  Let’s #SeeBeyondThePink.”
