HELPFUL HINTS FOR STORING WITH US!

1. It is a good idea to make an inventory list of your items.

2. Put large items in first and build up using smaller/lighter items.

3. Store sofas and mattresses on end (NOT RECOMMENDED FOR SLEEPER SOFAS).

4. Remove legs from large tables. They will take up less room.

5. Defrost refrigerators and freezers at least 48 hours prior to storage. Place activated charcoal in the bottom, and leave the door open.

6. Drain all washing machines and garden hoses before storing.

7. Remove all gasoline and oil from lawnmowers and place heavy paper or cardboard under them. We have absorbent pads available in our retail area.

8. It is not recommended to store clothing in closed plastic.

9. We recommend using a paper or cloth covering over clothing and upholstery items.

10. Place any loose items in the middle or back of unit AWAY from the door. Small items may fall against the door and make it difficult to roll up the door.

11. Place items you know you will use, like Christmas decorations, in the front of the storage unit. This will save having to “dig” them out later.

12. If you are NOT using humidity controlled units, do not seal items with plastic as moisture may collect and could possibly cause mold and mildew.

Storage Insurance

Did you know that your belongings are not insured by the storage facility when in storage, and most home owners and renters insurance policies do NOT cover items stored in self storage facilities? Always check with your insurance company to see if they offer this type of coverage as part of your policy, and if they don’t, check with the storage facility you are using to see if they offer third party insurance to cover your belongings in the event of theft or a weather event that may cause damage to your stored items.

Here at StoreRight, we work with a great insurance company to offer you the best protection available, at affordable rates, to insure the contents of your storage unit. Ask the manager today how to sign up and give yourself peace of mind knowing your belongings are not only in the safest, cleanest facility in town, but are also protected with insurance!

CAMP Movie

Marion County residents: As you all know, we here at StoreRight are involved with, and support, many local organizations.  One these is Royal Family Kids Camp – RFKC is a faith-based, non-profit created to give positive memories for abused & neglected children in the foster care system, ages 7-12, through a one week overnight summer camp experience.

CAMP the Movie is showing tonight at the Hollywood 16 at 7:30, and proceeds from the movie help our children go to CAMP. If you can’t come tonight to see with movie then try to make it sometime this week. This is an easy way to support our camp. We have not sold out yet and that is our goal,so help us make it happen. Thank you for all of your support.

Packing Tips

Although moving can be exciting, packing is something most of us dread. By using this guide, provided by 123movers.com, you will feel more secure in knowing that your possessions are properly packed and once you get them moved and stored, you’ll be able to find everything when the time comes to find them in your storage unit to move them to your new home.

Get Things in Order
Your move will be easier and smoother if you do a good job of pre-planning. Here are several handy tips to help you get started.

1. Always create a thorough and complete inventory of what you will be moving to your new address.
2. Don’t forget to photograph or videotape any unique or valuable belongings.
3. It’s also wise to make a note of the serial numbers on your electronic equipment.

What You’ll Need
Before you can start packing, you’ll need to have the following materials:
• Strong Boxes.
• Wardrobe Boxes with Hanger Bars.
• Packing Tape.
• Bubble Wrap, Newspaper, Wrapping Paper, and Tissue Paper.
• Ziploc Bags.
• Magic Markers.

Notes for Wrapping
• Wrap all your breakable items in bubble wrap, wrapping paper, or tissue paper.
• Because newspaper may leave ink smudges on your items, it should only be used to cushion items that are already protected.
• You can use old linens, blankets, and towels to wrap and cushion fragile items.
• Ziploc bags can be used for small odds and ends that usually clutter your drawers.

Furniture Storage Tips

A few tips to help you save time, secure your furniture and avoid unpleasant surprises in the future with these simple furniture storage tips:

  1. Avoid plastic. Many people make the mistake of using plastic to cover furniture when placing it into storage. Unfortunately, despite the inexpensive nature of plastic it can often lead to big costs later. Plastic doesn’t allow furniture to “breathe” and is more likely to result in unpleasant odors, build-up of condensation or other undesirable problems. Use soft fabrics instead of plastic; old sheets and blankets provide protection against dust, scratches and other potential problems while still allowing proper ventilation.
  2. Space. When storing furniture always be careful to leave enough space between items to allow easy access and airflow. While it might be tempting to try to use every available inch of space, it usually only leads to frustration in the future. Worse, when the time comes to remove the furniture, the risk of damage increases since furniture isn’t easily accessible.
  3. Lift. Whenever possible, avoid placing items directly on the floor. Although most storage units remain secure, accidents sometimes take place. Flooding, spills or even inadvertent drips can pool on the floor and ruin fabrics, wood or other furniture. One simple solution is to place large or sensitive items on pallets so they are not in direct contact with the floor. Likewise, avoid placing heavy objects on top of other furniture; prolonged pressure from a heavy object can cause permanent marks or indentations in furniture over time.
  4. Climate Control. Seriously consider using a climate controlled unit for furniture storage, not only does it help protect against temperature extremes but reduces the risk of that unpleasant “musty” odor.  This can be especially important here in Central Florida in the summer, with the high humidity in the air.
  5. Insurance. Verify your homeowners or renters insurance policy covers the furniture and other items to be placed in storage; don’t automatically assume you have coverage. The fact is most policies provide only limited – if any – coverage for furniture in storage. If your policy doesn’t provide adequate coverage, it is available through a special policy here at StoreRight. It’s well worth the additional expense to have the peace of mind of knowing your valuables are protected in the event of a loss.

A Few Self-Storage Tips

A couple of self storage tips for everyone:

• Try to use boxes that are a uniform size, they’re easier to stack (remember; keep the heavy ones on the bottom and the light ones on top).

• Leave small walkways between the boxes and furniture in your storage unit so you can easily get to the items you want without having to move anything around.

• If you’re storing a lot of packing boxes in your …unit, try to fill them to the top, even if it’s just with padding and old, crumpled newspapers. Boxes that are only half-filled tend to collapse if anything’s placed on them.

• If you’re putting any metal objects into storage – like lawnmowers or file cabinets – it’s best to treat them with rust protector first, or at least wipe them down with an oily rag.
