Packing Tips for Self Storage

Hello!

No one likes packing, but the more organized you are at the beginning, the easier it will be when you’re UN-packing! Here’s some helpful tips:

1. We sell a big variety of boxes and supplies at StoreRight Self Storage. All our tenants get a discount on packing supplies! One stop shopping! Stop by our office at 1227 South Lecanto Highway (Rte 491) in Lecanto to check out all the supplies. We even have hard to find boxes, like ones for your golf clubs! Those work well for other items, too.

2. Breakables: Pack breakables in bubble wrap or packing paper. We sell both at StoreRight Self Storage. The packing paper tends to be a more economical option. I personally used less than two boxes of newsprint when I moved and I have ALOT of stuff. Of course, using newspaper is cheap, but you run the risk of getting ink on your items. You won’t want to have to wash everything to get the ink off; or possibly ruin something for good, by using newspaper.

3. Fine China: We also sell dish packs, so each plate will have a foam layer around it.

4. Books: When packing books, don’t fill up one big box with them, because the bottom may break. Use smaller boxes. Also, don’t store the books standing on end. Rather, put them flat on the boxes so that their spines will not be damaged.

5. Mirrors & pictures: We also sell mirror and picture boxes, which makes packing and transporting large mirrors and picture frames easier. Fine artwork should be stored in a Climate Controlled Unit to avoid damage from humidity.

6. Appliances: Freezers and refrigerators should be stored with the door slightly open. Electrical appliances should be completely dry – defrost freezers and refrigerators, drain washing machines completely.

7. Clothes: we sell wardrobe boxes in 2 lengths. It’s much easier to keep all your clothes on hangers in the wardrobe boxes while you move. Once you’re unpacking all your things, you won’t want to deal with a bunch of wrinkled up clothes that have been stuffed in a box.

8. Tape! Tape! Tape! Don’t skimp on the tape! Tape your boxes up really well. Tape is cheap, your items in the boxes are not. You don’t want to save a few cents on tape, and then end of with broken things cause you were too skimpy on the tape.

9. Label EVERYTHING. You won’t remember what’s in the boxes, so make sure you label them. Label the top AND the side. So that way if your boxes are stacked, you can still read the label on the side of the box.

10. Moving companies: if you just don’t want to deal with moving your stuff, give us a call at StoreRight Self Storage at 352-527-9777 and we’ll recommend a good moving company!

Big Storm in Citrus County Last Night! Time to think about tenant insurance!

Did that big storm keep you awake last night? It was loud and scary! It made me think about what could happen! Check out these pictures! This is damage done by tornadoes, fires and hurricanes. It hasn’t happened here at StoreRight Self Storage in Lecanto, however it could!

I wanted to remind you about the insurance we offer here at StoreRight Self Storage, since last night could have easily caused some damage to buildings, trees, homes, porches, carports, etc…

Maybe you didn’t feel the need to insure your belongings before, but since our bad weather season has already started, you might want to think about insurance. Also, you may have recently purchased something that you really should insure.

Keep in mind, if you’re not insured; if anything happens–weather, theft, aliens, acts of God, sinkholes, fire, etc….your belongings are NOT covered. Again, check out these pictures. It that catastrophe happened here at StoreRight, don’t you want the peace of mind of having your belongings insured?

We offer insurance through the Bader Company. StoreRight itself is not an insurance company or agent, but we offer policies through Bader. You can insure your items for as little as $10 per month. The insurance premiums depend on the level of coverage you select.

Give us a call, or stop by the office to pick up a brochure or to discuss an insurance policy for your belongings. The paperwork is really easy, it’s only one form!

Better to be safe than sorry! As always, thank you for your business!

Storage Tips

Before you put your  items into storage here are some storage tips that you can take to protect  keep your belongings .

To better protect your goods place them in  boxes, totes or other storage containers.

Thoroughly clean, disinfect and dry refrigerators, freezers, stoves and other appliances. Appliances with doors can be stored with the door slightly open and some can be stacked on top of each other.

Be sure to clean and dry all electrical equipment before placing in your unit.

Slow rust by wiping down all types of metal surfaces before storing.  Use a few drops of machine oil to lightly coat these items for preventing rust.

Pack all books, files and documents flat and use bubble wrap or newspaper to fill in empty spaces in the boxes and totes.

Use bubble wrap and other packing materials when storing dishes and glassware.  Pack similar items in the same box and fill empty spaces with peanuts, bubble wrap or newspaper.

Disassemble furniture and place pieces on a corrugated cardboard mat or plastic sheet before placing on floor or pallet.

Stack lightweight chairs seat to seat , but avoid stacking other types of furniture on top of each other.  Cover all upholstery with light cotton dust covers or plastic.

Holiday decorations can be stored in their original cartons or plastic tubs.  Wrap ornaments and other delicate items in bubble wrap or newspaper.

Cover computer screens and large televisions screens with dust covers and wrap in bubble wrap.

You can purchase all wrapping and packing material here at StoreRight Self Storage, along with many different size boxes .

Decluttering for 2017

Is de-cluttering and reorganizing your home part of your New Years Resolution? This can seem like an overwhelming task if you try to tackle it all at once. So, break it down into small bites.
You may want to start with one room, one closet or even one cabinet at a time. Whatever is manageable for you at any given time.
Get boxes, bins or bags to separate what you use frequently and want to keep close at hand, things you use occasionally or seasonal items that can be moved to a less convenient location, and  items you no longer use but are still usable and could be donated or sold.

Start slowly. The idea is to reduce stress but de-cluttering not stress about reducing stress. If the kitchen, family room or garage is overwhelming, start with the closet, a cabinet or a storage shelf. If you’re still raring to go after that, pick another area to work on; if not, tomorrow’s another day.

Once you have everything sorted out, decide where you want to put things. It makes no sense going to all this effort just to shove it all back where you got it from in the first place. Invest in bins and baskets for storing items on closet shelves and under the bed. Make sure to label the so you won’t have to search high and low for one item when you need it. and avoid using cardboard boxes as they apparently provide food and nesting material for some pests.

When it comes to seasonal items or items you rarely use, check out space in your attic, garage or back yard shed. Personally, I have neither a garage nor a shed and the thought of climbing a ladder with bins and boxes fills me with dread!Fortunately, at StoreRight Self Storage in Brooksville, we have a wide variety of storage units to fit most every need from a climate controlled locker that is four feet wide by five feet deep by four feet tall all the way to an outside unit that is ten feet wide by thirty feet deep by eight feet tall (that’s larger than most standard one-car garages). With security cameras, gates accessed by your personal code and your own padlock, you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that your belongings are safe.

The items that are usable but no longer wanted can be sold online on sites such as Craigslist or Ebay, or you can have a yard sale or donate them to one of the many local charities – some will even pick up your donations.

Happy Holidays

Here’s a little tune written by Eloise Miller, she has retired from StoreRight Self Storage.  Sing to the tune of “Grandma Got Run By A Reindeer ”

Grandma was an avid junk collector

Anything and everything she’d see

Her house was like a museum

Right down to the fake papaya tree

We all knew the day was coming

We’d inherit all her stuff

So we called StoreRight Storage

Hope two units are enough

All the folks at StoreRight love us

When we talk about our fate

Just rented one more unit

Think this makes it number eight

Grandma was an avid junk collector

Bears and chimes and other shiny things

Found an old time Christmas village

Stuck beneath a set of angel wings

Every day it seems much harder

To put myself in Grandma’s shoes

What’d she see in pink flamingos

Guess they chased away her blues

Every week I go to StoreRight

Just to look at Grandma’s stuff

Wonder how I did without it

I just can’t seem to get enough

Grandma was an avid junk collector

With heart and soul and oh so full of love

She could spot a “gem” in a minute

Now she’s teaching me from up above

Get yourself to StoreRight Storage

For you know you have some junk

Special things that you cherish

Keep the safe inside that trunk

Thanks to the folks at StoreRight

I can afford to carry on

The tradition of my Grandma

And a collection to build upon

Grandma was an avid junk collector

And my collecting future’s looking bright

Any time I need another Storage

I just call my friends down at StoreRight

MERRY CHRISTMAS  !

Citrus County-Cinderella’s Closet Prom Dress Give-Away Event

We are excited to let you know that StoreRight Self Storage is involved with the 10th Annual Cinderella’s Closet event!!!

cinderella-2017

StoreRight Self Storage is a drop-off location for prom dresses, dressy formal shoes/sandals, rhinestone jewelry, etc…

1227 S. Lecanto Hwy in Lecanto (Rte 491 behind Havana House Café)

The Cinderella’s Closet is an outreach ministry of the Cornerstone Baptist church. The ministry provides dresses, shoes, accessories to local high school girls for FREE.

It’s a wonderful event for girls who might not be able to afford a prom dress.

So, if you have a dress to donate, please drop them off here prior to the event.

January 21st is the deadline for donations.

You know you’re not going to wear that bridesmaid’s dress again, that’s just hanging in your closet, taking up space!

If your daughter or relative is attending one of the Ctrus County High Schools Proms and would like to attend the dress give away event, it’s January 28, 2017 at Cornerstone Church in Inverness. The girls need to provide student ID to show that they’re enrolled in the local high schools, in order to participate in the event.

Here are some additional details:

Cinderella’s Closet is a ministry of Cornerstone Baptist Church. The mission is to provide dresses and accessories for young ladies in the community. January 28, 2017, 10am til 3pm, Cornerstone Baptist Church, 1100 W. Highland Blvd, Inverness, FL 34452.

Cinderella’s Closet 2017

StoreRight Self Storage in Lecanto, is very honored to be participating in Cinderella’s Closet again! Last year was wonderful, our storage room was a rainbow of gorgeous, donated dresses!

Cinderella’s Closet is a ministry of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Inverness, Florida. Their mission is to provide dresses and accessories to young ladies in our community for Prom. All services are completely free! Dresses are provided for free, and altered as needed. Hair and make-up services are provided on Prom days.

It’s really heartwarming to see the happiness on the high school girls faces when they find the perfect dress. Specially since without Cinderella’s Closet, they wouldn’t have a prom dress at all. It’s not easy for families to be able to afford “extras” like prom gowns. So, please, if you have any fancy gowns that are just taking up space in your closet, please think about donating them.

StoreRight is a drop off location for prom dresses. We are located right behind the Havana House Café, on Rte 491, in Lecanto, right in the middle of Citrus County! Dresses, fancy shoes, accessories, etc…may be dropped off during our office hours of 8:30am til 5pm weekdays and 9am til 2pm on Saturdays.

For more information, please check out the Citrus Cinderellas Facebook page. There will also be updates on the StoreRight Self Storage Lecanto Facebook Page.

StoreRight, the Right Place, at the Right Price! We are the storage facility that gives back to the community and we’re honored to do so!

Auction Bargains

Looking for an easy way to make a little extra cash? Many of us have seen TV shows like “Storage Wars” and thought that it looks like a fun and easy way to boost the budget and there are people who make money buying storage units at auction but like most things on TV, it isn’t as easy as it looks.
Here at StoreRight Self Storage in Brooksville, Florida we usually have an auction once a month. This can a couple of small units to ten or more units the size of your average garage. So if you think this might be something you’d like to try, come on down!
But, first here are some tips from the experts:
Attend an auction but leave your wallet at home. Your first auction should be just to observe the process. Watch the other bidders and see the kind of things that you typically find in a storage unit. How would you turn these things into cash if you had been the winning bidder? You need a plan so you don’t wind up taking it all to the dump.
Find out what additional fees you may incur. There are auctioneer’s fees (generally a per percentage of the winning bid), sales tax and cleaning deposits you may need to pay. And most likely these will need to be paid in cash. Know the terms for retrieving your cleaning deposit. This will require removing everything from your unit within a set time frame.
Know how you are going to get everything out of the unit. This can be a physically demanding job so know your limits and who you can call on for help. Protect yourself during the cleaning process, you don’t know who owned these items but at the very least you are likely to be dealing with a lot of dust so gloves and dust masks are advisable. Do you have a truck or trailer to haul it away in? Where will you keep the items until you can sell them? Renting a truck and storage space can add quite a bit to your bottom line.
Finally, browse items on Craigslist , eBay and local flea markets to get a sense of what you could reasonably expect to sell your items for.
You’re not likely to find a Picasso tucked away between the old clothes and baby furniture but you never know!
